Brushstrokes of Sound: Creating a Gig Poster in Adobe Illustrator
This project was to create a creative gig poster for a non existent band with a specific music choice. Every detail, from the choice of fonts to the arrangement of images, was carefully selected to blend visual art with the essence of the music. This project allowed me to refine my skills in Illustrator, pushing my creative limits to create a poster that not only promotes an event but also connects with audiences on a deeper level.
The sketches
In my initial sketches, inspired by indie folk vibes from artists like Noah Kahan and Lizzy McAlpine, I played with nature scenes, envisioning forests and tiny details to capture that organic feel. My goal was to spark a sense of wanderlust and adventure, so I added in travel-related elements. But in the end, I settled on a simpler idea: a guitar with a forest or an ocean in the center of a guitar. It symbolized the beautiful blend of music and nature, shaping the direction of my final illustration in Adobe Illustrator.
The drafts
During the drafting phase, I created two initial versions. While experimenting, I found the concept of an ocean within a guitar more appealing than a forest as the center. The feedback highlighted the need to adjust text placement and font, enhance whale detail and positioning, center all elements, and refine the guitar strings for a more realistic look. These suggestions helped revise my draft into the final product.
The Final Product
In the final design, I implemented all the suggested changes. I adjusted the text placement and font, refined the whale illustrations, centered all elements, enlarged the boat as well as the whales and enhanced the guitar's realism. By incorporating design principles like balance and contrast, I created a gig poster that captures the essence of indie folk music creatively. I'm proud of how it turned out and I think it reflects my growth as a designer and my passion for using my creativity through Adobe.
